[Metroids On Shrooms]

Had potential

Graphics 8 - I liked you impressive reiterations of the popular nintendo characters. Even though the characters aren't made by you, the style which you choose to draw them was clean and colorful. The animation itself seemed quite slow though, the characters just kind of crawled along and the story felt a little sleepy at times.

Sound 5 - Pretty standard fare for this type of movie. Starting out with the usual mario theme (in one of its thousands of versions). Followed by that rap song for the build up scenes and a reverse mario tune for the trip out scene. The sound effects were few and far between though.

Interactivity 0 - Other than the play button there was nothing applicable.

Style 5 - As I mentioned above, I like the way the characters look but what I don't like is the lack of originallity. We've seen it all before. (Insert character)(insert drug)(insert colorful flashy background)(insert rap song). Done. Upload. Nothing new.

Violence 1 - There really wasn't any. Which can be a good thing, if your story is strong enough to support a non violent movie, which I'm afraid doesn't happen in this.

Humor 5 - I've said it before and I'll say it again. Its all been done before. Its just that, that makes this movie so unappealing and unfunny. It could have had potential had it been better writen.

Overall 7 - Good for the colors, bad for the writing. Kudos on the drawings though.

Graphics 8 - The drawings were somewhat fresh and original (dispite the fact they were drawn for old television programs) and the back drop was colorful but could have used some different angles. The characters could have used a little more movement but it was in general a decent job. I noticed use of photoshop filters for that grain / old book effect in the titles.

Sound 7 - The voices were we'll recorded unlike many other animations seen on this site. The excessive swearing however takes away from the overall humor in it. I'm not saying I am against vulgarities but this seems a bit excessive and childish, and generally wasn't used properly. The voice actors really seemed "in to" their parts so it made for good voice acting. The sound effects were few but its understandable. One tip however is try not to use many of the sounds from the built in flash library. Most vetern "flashers" can pick these off in a hurry and they sound a bit unprofessional due to their over use.

Interactivity 0 - N/A

Violence 1 - Fat Albert at the razor muffin, thats about it.

Style 4 & Humor 5 - Like I mentioned above the improperly places swearing brought down the overall feel. Keep the swearing but time it better, for more appropriate places. The jokes also felt a bit young, but I can see where you are making an attept so keep at it and hopefully we'll see a more polished product in the second episode.

Now is this the second or third time you've submitted this? The very least you could do is touch it up a bit. Now I have seen The Ring, but your jokes really aren't related enough to the movie. And next time you submit it please add a little something.
